NOTD: GOSH 562 Magic Star

Hi everyone!

Firstly, let me apologise for not blogging much over the last few days.  I started my new job as an Academic Support Worker this week and I am really enjoying it so far, but I am still getting used to the new routine of very early mornings and busy days!  As such, I have been far too tired and have had very little time to post anything, but hopefully once everything settles down I will be back to blogging every day.

So, today I thought I would ease myself back in to the blogosphere with a simple Nail of the Day, namely, 562 Magic Star by GOSH.

I picked this varnish up a couple of weeks ago from Superdrug with the intention of using it as a top coat.  I spotted it in the bargain bin for 99p and I couldn’t say no to that, and I’m glad that I didn’t!  The varnish itself is clear but is densely packed with lots and lots of very fine glitter.  Like most of GOSH’s varnishes, Magic Star has a nice formula which isn’t too thick or too thin, and comes with a nice sized, good quality brush so application is really easy and smooth.  It also dries impressively quickly, which is always a winner in my eyes as I get SO bored of waiting for nail varnish to dry!

Though I love glitter varnishes I don’t actually wear them that often because, as I’m sure you all know, they are a real pain to remove, especially when the glitter flakes are large and coarse as they rip the cotton wool to shreds, and can also damage your nails!  However, because the glitter in this varnish is so fine it can be removed effortlessly and in seconds with a normal nail varnish remover, which is great as it means you can have beautiful, twinkly nails without the trouble of having to spend hours taking it off!

As you can see, the glitter is absolutely stunning!  It predominantly contains blue, green and orange coloured flakes, but in some lights you can see pink and purple in there too.  I think the combination of these almost-pastel shades just looks so cute and adds a little bit of fun to bare nails, but it looks especially lovely over a bright colour, as with the above look.  I applied two coats of Magic Star over MUA’s Frozen Yoghurt and I think it looks so pretty!  My sister said earlier that it looks like a glittery pencil she used to have as a child, which looked a bit like this haha.  I’d say Magic Star is quite an apt name too, as the glitter really does look like a scattering of stars.

The varnish works amazingly well as a strong top coat too.  It’s very hardy so it can take a few knocks and will stay on for days before chipping.

Overall, GOSH’s Magic Star is a versatile and extremely gorgeous varnish which I am very pleased that I own, especially as it only cost 99p!  If you’re lucky (and quick!) you might also find this in your local Superdrug’s bargain bin, but full-price GOSH nail varnish still only costs around £5.00, which is great value for money considering the quality.

What do you think of Magic Star?
