Though I’m usually quite happy to go out of my comfort zone and try new beauty products, there are still a few things that I can’t bring myself to try! I’ve pondered each of them several times and come close to giving them a go, but every time I back out. Here they are, and here’s why…
1. Bronzer
I have naturally pale skin so the bronzed look doesn’t really become my “English Rose” (as my mum would say) complexion. Due to my lack of experience with bronzer, I also wouldn’t know how or where on my face to apply it, so I’d probably end up looking like a shiny penny, which is a definite no.
2. Epilator
The thought of having my hair ripped out from the root horrifies me. I know they say no pain, no gain, but the whole epilating process just seems a bit drastic! I’m not that desperate for long-lasting hairlessness anyway. I’ll stick to razors, thanks.
3. Facial Oil
I have combination skin on my face which is quite patchy, so though I have dry areas which would benefit from facial oil, I’m worried that the already oily parts would end up looking hideously greasy and shiny.
4. Permanent Hair Dye
I’ve always been happy with the colour of my brunette locks, but every now and then I fancy a change. I’ve experimented with wash in/wash out colourants in the past, but permanent dyes are just too permanent for my liking, especially if I change my mind or don’t like the colour! I also don’t want bleach anywhere near my head.
5. Cuticle Pusher
The sensation of pushing my cuticles back actually turns my stomach, so to me a cuticle pusher actually looks like an instrument of torture. Luckily, my cuticles don’t grow that much, so I don’t really need to use one anyway.
So, what do you think – am I right to steer clear of these beauty products? Or should I take the plunge and try them out? I’d be happy to hear any suitable recommendations you may have! Also, please vote below and let me know which of these you think I should try, and if I’m brave enough I might just do it!
You shouldn’t be scared of bronzer! If applied lightly and in the right places ( you can look up videos on you tube) it would contour your face and make you look healthier.
As for the epilator, it is not as bad as it sounds… but be careful – it made me ultra prone to ingrown hairs… still fighting the battle.
Permanent hair dye is ok.. you can always dye it back to a more natural colour if you do not like it. And you can always try using a toner first…
Cuticle pushers… I think I understand, last time a friend of mine did gel nails on me as she is doing a course and she needed a model, they push it back and actually cut the excess… it was painful and she ended up cutting a bit more than she was meant too… the blood couldn’t stop. I still have ugly brown marks… So I’ll give you that one! But for the rest, try them out and let us know
I’ve voted for facial oil, as this is something if you’re not sure of you could give it a go while at home or use it at bedtime. That way you won’t have to really worry about it looking to shiny in certain areas, if the problem should arise.
As for epilators, I switch between them and razors. I gave up waxing a long time ago, as I find it expensive. However, as marijadebono has rightly pointed out, you may face issues of ingrown hair. I have but I’m not sure if it’s the same with everybody.
I SWEAR by my epilator! It’s painful to get used to but you don’t get razor rash, and re growth is far softer because it doesn’t have blunt ends! When my friend gave me a leg massage she commented on how soft my legs are! I find it great for underarms as well because I used to get really bad razor rash as my armpits are really sensitive, but now they’re always lovely and I have to shave them less often! There is a danger of ingrown hairs but if you periodically exfoliate this shouldn’t happen too much!
Sorry if this is too much information, but I really can’t stress enough how much I Iove my epilator!
I barely have any hair on my legs and it grows really, really slowly so I don’t even know if it’d be worth it! I may consider it, but the ingrown hair thing bothers me :/ And the pain! I can handle tattoo pain, but epilators I’m not sure on haha
Bronzer is fab if you use a colour that is suited to you, for paler skin tones maybe something a bit less harsh, but bronzer makes me look healthier in this English weather! I just apply it lightly to my contour areas and anywhere where the sun normally hits!
Facial oils are AMAZING! You can get dry oils such a the Orange Facial Oil from Neal’s Yard or even Jojoba oil, they sink in fabulously so no chance of having oil just sitting on the skin! I hope you try one if not all of the above!
I’m like you for #1 and #4! But I really suggest you to use the epilator! I was terrified too, but the more you use it the more the less hair grow!!! Trust me!
Are Epilators more popular in the UK/Europe? I saw a lot of girls using them when I was there late (a milion years, ago, granted).
And facial oils can actually help balance out a combination skin! Just make sure your chosen product does not contain mineral oil. Boscia Make-Up Break-Up is a great one for oily or combo skin if you have Boscia products available.
I like Tatcha Cleansing Oil but it toooo expensive for every day use for me!

I love Marajuca Oil by Tarte and I have oily skin, It really slowed the oil down. And bronzer is great if used sparingly.

I think bronzer would be good for you. You got a pretty face. Just make sure you don’t overdo it. Try some time.

I am also petrified of bronzer because of my super fair skin. I feel like it looks like to brown stripes on my face! I’m totally with you on that one.
Great post! I’m afraid to try a lot of products!
I have combination to oily skin too, but I’m using facial oil, it does get my skin oilier. But after getting washed it looks awesome!
